Frequently Asked Questions

How do I measure the hot air temperature of a Quadra-Flow Tip?

This is not easy with the MS412. You can put it close to the edge of the Quadra-Flow Tip and allow the air to pass by the sensing part of the TP791 probe. This however, does not give you the internal temperature. We do have a TPW24 Temperature Probe K-Type 24 AWG x 5.5 ft. long that is flexible and can be put inside the area of the tip or on the component. This device will plug directly into the temperature meter.

How often should I calibrate my soldering iron?

An inspection should be made at the time of purchase of the soldering tool. Then select an appropriate interval, one month or quarterly, and lessen the period between calibrations when not meeting the requirement or lengthen periods when passing if desired. Always check temperatures when changing tips. Some companies have adopted standards used by the government such as the DOD-STD-2000.

Do your tools meet ISO9000?

ISO9000 is a standard that is implemented by a company that has an ISO9000 program implemented. This standard is a quality procedure of how the company conducts its business which is documented and approved by the International Standards Organization. No tools are ISO9000 approved, but the tools can be designed to make it easier for a company to implement and follow procedures necessary by the company.

Do I need a RMA Number?

YES, we do require a Return to Manufacture Authorization number. Please call the factory at (818) 989-2324 and speak to customer service for information to obtain an RMA.

How do I send in my tool for repair?

Address this to: ATTN: Customer Service, EDSYN, Inc., 15958 Arminta St. Van Nuys, CA 91406. Please also describe the problem with the unit and name to contact if there are any questions regarding the problem and repair charges if they occur.

Where is the serial number?

At this time EDSYN does not use serial numbers. The stations carry an 18-month warranty from the date of manufacturing and our 1-year warranty with proof of purchase. Our 18-month warranty will give the customer the ability to send the repair to the factory for a repair without the sales receipt during this period.

Where is the date code?

The date code is located on a calibration label.

Where is the model or part number located on your products?

Usually you will find the part number of the station in the front of the product. For further information of the product you will find the rating label in the back of the station. If you have hand held products it will usually have engraving, label or an "EQ" on a very small part.

The pump or motor on the ZD500DX desoldering station does not start right away, is there a problem?

No, in fact this is a good thing! What this tells you that you have vacuum ready to be used for the next desoldering operation. The reason the pump, at times, will not start right away is that vacuum is already stored in the hose from the valve of the handle to the pump chamber. Vacuum presence will cause a resistance to hold the motor from turning in a start motor mode. But when resistance is removed by pressing the trigger on the hand tool, the motor will start
